A four-year journey, best defined by courage: to try, to act, and to take responsibility
The annual Outstanding Youth awards are here again.
Congratulations to Chien Jui-Yu (Department of Tourism, Class 4A) on being selected as one of Ming Chuan University’s Outstanding Youth for Academic Year 115. Through four years of dedication and action—in the Student Association, Shan-Shui Leadership Group, industry-academia projects, internships, competitions, and continuous growth—Jui-Yu has written her own chapter of youth. Let us hear her acceptance remarks below.
Acceptance Remarks by Jui-Yu Chien Hello everyone, I am Jui-Yu Chien from Tourism 4A. I am truly delighted and honored to be selected as an Outstanding Youth this year!
Freshman Year I had many expectations for university life and wanted to explore different student organizations. I joined the Student Association, the Industry-Academia Travel Agency, and the Shan-Shui Leadership Group. During that time, I was constantly moving among classes, activities, and meetings—very busy, but meaningfully so. Because of this, I adapted to university life faster than I expected and gradually became clearer about what I wanted.
Sophomore and Junior Years I transitioned from being a team member to taking on leadership roles, which brought new identities and more responsibilities. I served as:
- Director of Activities, Student Association
- Vice President, Shan-Shui Leadership Group
- Administrative Director, Industry-Academia Travel Agency These experiences taught me more than event organization; they taught me how to communicate and listen, and they helped me handle challenges with greater steadiness.
Later Experiences I joined the Tourism Innovation Club, interned at Xianguang Second Village, and earned multiple professional certificates through coursework. I also participated in several itinerary design competitions with my teammates, creating many treasured memories of my college years.
Looking Back on These Four Years I spent much of my time in student clubs and various activities, which made my college life both fulfilling and meaningful, and brought me substantial growth. To me, being an “Outstanding Youth” is not about accomplishing something grand, but about seizing every opportunity—having the courage to try, to act, and to take responsibility for the outcome.
A Note to Underclassmen If you are still hesitating to take that first step, you don’t need to wait until you feel fully prepared. Many times, understanding comes only after you start moving. I hope each of you who bravely makes a decision will shine in the field you aspire to pursue.
